About This Song
This is a song about the questions we ask after a breakup. What happened? You liked me once, right? Now you don't? It’s confusing! We want an explanation but we don’t always get one.
The strings are by Caleb and Brian Chan— two friends of mine from University. I wrote the piano and vocals and then asked them to fill the rest of the space with strings— and was so happy with the result. I love what they did.
Lyrics
If I wait here sleeping in this thought
I could fall into a thousand knots
I don't even love you
Hardly even see you
Wanted to be generous
But I knew you were leaving
And nothing lasts forever
I know that wasn't promised
But if I'm being honest
I thought you believed it
And I'll be a hundred miles away
Making plans so I'm not by myself
Ticker tape to see how I perform
So this is how you love me?
This is how it's gonna be?
You didn't even tell me
I just knew you were leaving
(I don't even love you no more)
And I flew out to New York
I barely even knew you
Let you in on my life
Did you think that was easy?
(I don't even love you no more)
But if I'm being honest
It was written all over
The entire weekend
I could sense you were leaving
(I don't even love you no more)
And what if I transformed
Into someone you admire
If you saw me doing well again
Would that change how your feelings?
But I'll be hundred miles away
