About This Song
A Christmas song— complete with sleigh bells, children's choir and a mid-song pageant break with tubas and trumpets!
I love Christmas. But Christmas can be a weird mix of expectations, social dynamics and emotions. Christmas after all, is about family and families are... complicated. I wanted to write a Christmas song that sort of poked at this.
Lyrics
We couldn’t help it
Turned on each other
Lashing out in our own ways
Picture me brother
Under the covers
Hiding my red face
Please don’t bury me, in your history
I don’t like to feel, I’m left behind from you
Fold in on misery
Hide in the back seat
Driving on country roads
Zip up my jacket
Cover the cracks in
Settle in my stubborn ways
Sunlight
Drifting through my red eyes
I’ve been thinking how bright
Is this impossible dream I can’t find
Please don’t bury me, in your history
I don’t like to feel, I’m left behind from you
Tiptoe down the stairs I find you there
How morning dismissed the mood from the night before
In time I’ll discover too
Stories of me were as much about you
This much I can see now
Despite complicated weaves
Tying you to me
Still I think I belong to you.
